While senior status varies according to breed, all dogs eventually become older and require adjustments in their care, as they age. Older dogs often suffer from arthritis, vision and hearing changes, gastro-intestinal difficulties, dementia, dental problems and host of other issues. These concerns may lead to problems in caring for a senior pet.

When does a dog become a senior?

This varies by breed, however, the majority of dogs will show physical changes from the age of 7 and beyond.

How to care for a senior dog?

Ideally, our senior dogs should visit the hospital for a check over twice per year. The goal is to discover changes or health problems in a timely fashion and make the appropriate adjustments to their care. With the help of our veterinary team, diet, exercise, supplements and medications are implemented to assist in prolonging their time with you.
